Some playlister or curator will make a bad decision
And place your lovely song with some awful horror vision

Then the emails come from every song contest
Asking a price to judge the song you think is your best
There's prizes and promotions if your song beats the rest
And they've got their fingers in the pie

There's the music industry that will judge what you create
They have a formula for the best pop song you can make
Never mind that your heart's songs no one can rate
But they've got their fingers in the pie

Yeah, well what happens to the songs that come from the heart
Lost in exploitation if you play the part
Of the writer or musician who will sacrifice their art
Cos they've all got their fingers in the pie
